Composition Shingle Roofing

While homeowners have a wide range of choices when it comes to modern roofing, fiberglass composition shingles continue to be one of the most popular, making up nearly 85 percent of all home roofing systems. These shingles compliment many designs of homes, but are particularly common in traditional suburban styles. So what exactly are composition shingles? This type of roofing material features a fiberglass reinforcing mat at the center of the shingle, which is coated first with mineral fillers (that adhere to the fiberglass) and then with asphalt, which makes the shingle waterproof.

The top surface of the shingle is then embedded with a layer of ceramic granules. These light weight, high quality products result in a long lasting roof, with warranties ranging from 10 year non-prorated to 50 year non-prorated, depending on which brand one purchases. Should a shingle become loose for any reason, they are simple to replace.

ADVANTAGES

  • Composition shingles are affordable.
  • Composition shingles are highly durable: Composition shingles are an excellent investment in other ways, as they could help shield homes from harmful UV rays, decrease energy costs and utility bill, provide a level of fire resistance, and even help prevent the growth of mold, algae, and fungus.
  • Composition shingles come in a variety of colors, textures, and styles.

  • If damaged, composite shingles can be easily replaced on an individual basis.
  • Depending on which brand you purchase, these shingles can be a “green” option as some are made from recyclable materials such as post industrial plastics and hemp fibers.

FAQS

How do I know if I need a new roof?

Roof age should be considered when determining whether a roof needs replacement or not. In addition to this, we recommend inspecting your roof at least once a year to look for things such as cracked, warped, or missing shingles as well as signs from inside the structure such as peeling wallpaper or cracked paint. If you notice any of these signs you should call one of our roofing experts over to take a look.

How long does a composite roof last?

Although the exact number depends on the type of composite shingle chosen and the yearly amount of wear and tear on the roof, they can last up to 50 years.

Are warranties offered?

Yes. Most composite roofing products come with warranties between 10 and 50 year non-prorated. For more information about warranties, please click on the following link

WARRANTIES
How long will my roofing project take?

This will depend on factors such as the square footage of your job, how steep your roof is, and the type of roof being installed. On average, installing a new roof takes less than one week of work, but additional time is always needed in order to pass the County’s inspection. The time an inspection takes depends on which County house we need to go to.
